Welcome to Mercury Class

Teaching Assistants – Mrs Hutchinson and Ms Solana
Key Reminders for Autumn Term 1
- This term Mercury class will have PE twice each week.
- PE will be every Tuesday and Thursday, children need to wear appropriate PE kit to school on this day, with suitable footwear and earrings removed.
Please note that PE days are not non-uniform days and children should wear a plain white t-shirt, school cardigan/jumper or fleece and black knee-length shorts, black leggings or black tracksuit bottoms. These must have no large logos. - When the weather is likely to be sunny please make sure your child has a hat and sun cream in their bags.
- Please remember that attendance really matters for doing well in school: academically, socially, and emotionally.
Bags
Please make sure that your child brings a bag in with them each day, this means that we can send home any letters with important information, homework books and reading records.
Reading
Reading is really important for all children, we encourage all children to read at home four times per week and to complete their reading records to show this. Your child will have the opportunity to bring home a book that they have chosen themselves from our library.
Homework
Homework will be sent home on a Tuesday and will be due in on the following Monday. The homework will normally be an English/Spelling activity and a SumDog maths task, but may sometimes be based on other areas we've been exploring in class. It is important to encourage your child to complete the homework as independently as possible, however some work will require working together.
Water bottles
Please provide your child with a water bottle at the start of the year. It will need to be named. We will send the water bottle home daily to be washed. Only water should be provided. Children will have the opportunity to fill the bottles with fresh water throughout the day if needed.
Milk and fruit
You can order milk for your child to have at break time if they would like it. Please speak to the office if you would like to order milk. For break time you are also welcome to send in a piece of fruit that you know they will enjoy. We are a healthy school so no crisps, chocolate or junk food please. Please remember we are a nut free school.
Uniform
On non-PE days full school uniform must be worn. Jewellery, except for stud earrings, is not permitted. Footwear must be appropriate. Please refer to the Uniform Expectations if you have any questions about this, or feel free to ask.
Maths
- Maths Games
Your child will have the option to borrow a maths game, this is to help them practice their maths in a fun way at home. Please ensure a prompt return of the game to ensure all children get a new game regularly.
- MTC
Year 4’s are now expected to complete an online times table assessment during the Summer Term. This is known as the MTC or Multiplication Tables Check, you can find out more information about this by clicking here. We will prepare children for this in school, but please continue to support them at home. You can use this website to practice online: Multiplication Tables Check - 2025 - Timestables.co.uk
- Sumdog
Pupils will be given a username and password to Sumdog (Sumdog Website), an online maths games that will help them to develop their maths skills. Sumdog will challenge them across the whole maths curriculum.
School day
A reminder that school gates open at 8.35am and close at 8.45am.
Attendance matters for doing well in school: academically, socially, and emotionally. Every day is important. As a parent/carer you are responsible for making sure your child develops the habit of regular attendance – every day counts!
Punctuality is also highly important. Pupils who arrive late to school are not only losing out on learning, but disrupt the learning of others when they arrive late into the learning that has already started. Thank you for your continued support with this matter.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to come and speak to us.
